Homosynaptic long-term depression in hippocampus and mescsrtex

چکیده
Computational models of self-organizing neural networks and associative memory depend on hebbian synaptic plasticity, a local learning rule for increasing synaptic strengths based on coincident electrical activity in presynaptic and postsynaptic neurons. Some forms of long-term potentiation (L TP) studied in the hippocampus and neocortex are hebbian. Learning rules in network models also incorporate long-lasting decreases in synaptic strengthsfor stability and efSiciency. W e review recent evidence for long-term depression (L TD) in the hippocampus and neocortex.

Regulation of excitability and plasticity by endocannabinoids and PKA in developing hippocampus.
The activity-dependent strengthening and weakening of synaptic transmission are hypothesized to be the basis of not only memory and learning but also the refinement of neural circuits during development. Here we report that, in the developing CA1 area of the hippocampus, endocannabinoid (eCB)-mediated heterosynaptic long-term depression (LTD) of glutamatergic excitatory synaptic transmission is...
متن کاملInvolvement of a Postsynaptic Protein Kinase A Substrate in the Expression of Homosynaptic Long-Term Depression
Hippocampal N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptor-dependent long-term synaptic depression (LTD) is associated with a persistent dephosphorylation of the GluR1 subunit of AMPA receptors at a site (Ser-845) phosphorylated by cAMP-dependent protein kinase (PKA). In the present study, we show that dephosphorylation of a postsynaptic PKA substrate may be crucial for LTD expression. PKA activators inh...
متن کاملPrimed facilitation of homosynaptic long-term depression and depotentiation in rat hippocampus.
Previous studies have demonstrated that prior synaptic activity can influence the subsequent induction of synaptic plasticity in the brain. Such temporal modulation of synaptic plasticity has been called "metaplasticity." In this report, we describe the facilitatory effects of high-frequency stimulation on the induction of homosynaptic long-term depression (LTD) in the CA1 region of the rat hip...
متن کاملSynaptic plasticity: LTP and LTD.
Long-term potentiation (LTP) is a synaptic enhancement that follows brief, high-frequency electrical stimulation in the hippocampus and neocortex. Recent evidence suggests that induction of LTP may require, in addition to postsynaptic Ca2+ entry, activation of metabotropic glutamate receptors and the generation of diffusible intercellular messengers. A new form of synaptic plasticity, homosynap...
متن کاملGlucocorticoid receptor activation lowers the threshold for NMDA-receptor-dependent homosynaptic long-term depression in the hippocampus through activation of voltage-dependent calcium channels.
The effects of the glucocorticoid receptor agonist RU-28362 on homosynaptic long-term depression (LTD) were examined in hippocampal slices obtained from adrenal-intact adult male rats. Field excitatory postsynaptic potentials were evoked by stimulation of the Schaffer collateral/commissural pathway and recorded in stratum radiatum of area CA1. Low-frequency stimulation (LFS) was delivered at LT...
